Corey Haim's death is currently under investigation following a link authorities found to an "illegal and massive prescription drug ring." The ring allegedly orders the prescription pads using stolen doctor identities and sells them to addicts and dealers. An unauthorized prescription in Haim's name was found during an ongoing probe of fraudulent pads, and CNN was told it was "very recent, and it involves Oxycontin and we're not talking just 40 pills, more than that."
Toxicology reports will show what Haim had in his system at the time of his death, but his manager claims he was "weaned down to literally zero medications" by an addiction specialist in the two weeks prior.
There may also be an investigation around urgent care facilities, as Haim's mother Judy has told investigators that her son had been frequenting several in the past few months, often coming home with 90 pills; she called them at the time to question why they would give her son so many pills per visit.
While the coroner found that Haim had an enlarged heart, he says, "You can have somebody with an enlarged heart and some other medical conditions, but you don't know if the actual cause of death is from illegal substances, medication or heart failure," and there won't be "a final cause of death until the final toxicology tests are back," which may not happen for another six weeks.
