Human remains found near Brooklyn Bridge Park on Thursday match previous recoveries of skeletal parts in the immediate vicinity, the New York City chief medical examiner's office said on Friday.
A spokesperson for the office said the latest remains to turn up were part of a pelvic bone from the same person, who has not yet been identified. Medical examiners believe the person's remains have been washing up on the shore where the waterfront park is located because of the tides, the spokesperson said, adding that officials were still investigating.
Police earlier on Friday said they were looking into possible human remains found at the park — just steps from where human bones were recovered on at least two separate occasions in August.
NYPD officials said the newest materials were spotted around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday near 45 Water St., close to Jane’s Carousel and other popular attractions on the East River waterfront. They could not say who first made the discovery.
A skull and other bones were discovered in the area over the summer, according to police.
