Police said Monday they were looking for three people in connection with the fatal shooting of a Queens teenager in Forest Hills on Sunday night.
NYPD officers responding to a 911 call around 7:40 p.m. found Jean Rios, 19, shot in his chest and unresponsive on a residential block near 64th Road and Grand Central Parkway, police said. Emergency medical workers took him to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, where he was pronounced dead.
Three male suspects fled the scene either on foot or on a moped, NYPD officials said. Police have not yet made any arrests in the case as they explore a possible motive for the shooting.
Mario Reynoso, who does maintenance work for buildings on the block, said it was an unusual place for violence to break out.
“I've been here for at least four years and never heard something like that in this area,” he said Monday. “It’s a nice area to work and to live and everything because it's quiet.”
Rios' death came less than a week after 13-year-old Sanjay Samuels was gunned down in Cambria Heights, where police say a 16-year-old boy shot him in his head during a fight outside a Dunkin' store. Samuels succumbed to his injuries Wednesday.
NYPD data shows there were no shootings and one homicide this year through Sept. 21 in the 112th Precinct, which includes Forest Hills. The precinct recorded no shootings or homicides during the same period in 2024. Citywide, those crimes have decreased about 20% and 17%, respectively, compared to this time last year.
