The police have identified the above men as suspects in the murder of John Laubach, the Chelsea florist who was found bound and gagged in his apartment earlier this month. The current working theory is that the 57-year-old Laubach, who had recently had a stroke, hired ex-con Edwin Faulkner, 30, and Juan Carlos Martinez-Herrera, 26, to be his caretakers. And then things went wrong. The pair have been missing since Laubach was discovered dead, his laptop missing and his apartment ransacked.
Police now believe that Faulkner, of Brownsville, was the man seen trying to use Laubach's ATM card at a Chase bank after the murder. Both men have prior arrests. Martinez-Herrera was arrested four times in Florida while Faulkner has priors here in New York for drug possession and selling fake weed (and did time in state prison for grand larceny). Faulkner is 5'9", 140 pounds while Martinez-Herrera is 5'8", 140 pounds. Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
Meanwhile, in case you were worried about the white cockatoo Laubach was known to walk around with? Bolo is currently in foster care and is going to be okay.
