A history teacher in New Jersey was arrested yesterday morning and accused of carrying on a months-long inappropriate relationship with a former student, a 16-year-old at Passaic Valley High School where he worked. 32-year-old Kyle Daniw was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. "There is no evidence other than this child, but we are investigating whether there are other victims," Chief Assistant Prosecutor Joseph A. Del Russo told the Record. But "that’s always a concern."

According to authorities Daniw had a relationship with the girl, now a senior, after she was a student in his freshman history class. He also supervised her "as she participated in various school-related sports activities" (he was a track, basketball and cross-country coach). It is unclear who reported the relationship to authorities. One former student told WCBS 2, "Him and the girl, everyone knew they were being very flirty with each other," but added, "He was good. He was a really funny guy. It was really unexpected what happened."

Daniw, who became a father to his first child nine months ago, was suspended in December in a school board vote. "Once the administration was aware of the circumstances, there was no hesitation there," board member Anthony Sgobba said. Daniw now faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
