The trash chutes at a huge Union Square apartment building are locked shut as the NYPD continues to examine the death of a 48-year-old woman, who died after apparently falling 27 stories into the trash compactor.

A building worker called the police after finding Lara Prychodko unconscious in the trash compactor of Zeckendorf Towers, at 1 Irving Place, on Tuesday afternoon. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Post, Prychodko was seen on security video "stumbling in a stupor from an elevator on the 27th story" before she was "crushed to death" from the compactor. She had reportedly arrived home shortly before she was found in the compactor.

The Post adds that Prychodko, the mother of one, had been in the processing of divorcing her husband, who she separated from in 2014.

Police sources tell the Daily News that her death is being probed as a homicide.
