Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has a history of rescuing people who are injured in accidents (oddly enough, then those incidents somehow get reported to the press!). Today, a reader spotted the Commish in lower Manhattan at the scene of a multiple-car pileup:
Just got on the Northbound FDR at Houston a little after noon where a 6 or 8 car pile up had just occurred. They all rear-ended each other. And saw Commissioner Kelly helping out. His car pulled up and over a moment or two before mine and was the first on the scene. No emergency vehicles had arrived yet... The woman who he is talking too seemed to be OK and she was the last car involved.
Kelly, who has been called the "Master of PR" by one of his critics, was in a three-car Brooklyn fender-bender last December.
