Queens resident Miguel Mena got some good news and some bad news after last week's blizzard. The good news is that his car had not been towed, and was parked right where he left it in Mapleton, Brooklyn (near his job). The bad news is that plows weren't able to see it under a pile of snow, and crashed it into an unrecognizable hump of scrap metal. Sadly, no one seemed to be there to videotape it.
Mena seems to be one of the few New Yorkers who knew it was a bad idea to drive on the night of the storm, saying, "(It's) very painful, and now I don't have money to get another car. I couldn't drive that day, I wasn't going to move my car no matter what they say, it was very dangerous." Another man claims his truck was moved from a clear parking spot to a space near the gravestones, where it was buried underneath the snow. It's unclear whether or not the truck would've gotten buried at its original parking place, but mover Mario Roca says, "This is my only box truck," Roca said. "It's basically ruined my business."
The Sanitation Department will reportedly give drivers the paperwork he needs to file a claim, which is about as helpful as an equipment glitch in a snowstorm.
