Riding the subway for decades we've seen some pretty annoying subway behavior, but here's a new one: people holding the doors between subway cars open.

The weirdness occurred last night on a Q train around 9:30 p.m. as it went from Canal Street over the Manhattan Bridge to DeKalb. Just as the train went above ground two people opened the door between cars and then held it open with their feet until...all the way over the bridge until the train pulled into the next station.

Why did they do it? We have no idea. Though the intense cacophony from the open doors apparently looked to be irritating the entire train, it seems to have been one of those moments where everyone makes a conscious decision to just pretend nothing was out of the usual and go back to staring at their phones. The only person who even tried to close the doors appeared to be a bag lady, who immediately retreated when one of the door holders told her "no."

If the goal was to air out the stuffy train, it doesn't sound like it worked—the car in front pretty much blocked any wind that might have come in. So why would they even bother? Have you ever seen anyone doing this?
