In a jailhouse interview, former Giants star Plaxico Burress vowed to "play again," and said he still works out about four days a week even though prison is "not like LA Fitness or Bally's." He added: "I do push-ups, sit-ups...I made do."
In his first interview since being sentenced to two years in prison for attempted gun possession after shooting himself in the leg with an unlicensed pistol in a Manhattan nightclub, the wide receiver told CBS' "NFL Today" that he "personally hand-wrote a letter" to Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch to apologize for the 2008 incident. "I told them how sorry I was about bringing all this bad publicity to such a stand-up organization," he said, according to the Post.
Last month, prison officials rejected Burress' bid to take part in a work-release program that would have let him out of prison for a specified amount of time each week. Burress is eligible to reapply in July. If he is rejected again, he'll be released in July 2011, according to the tabloid. The Q and A—conducted by Bill Cowher, Burress' former coach when he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers—will air before the Superbowl on Sunday.
