Authorities have arrested eleven men who were allegedly part of a Bronx gang that committed violent robberies of drug dealers then posted photos of their spoils on Facebook. According to the city's Special Narcotics Prosecutor, the men, ages 19 to 24, were part of the 6 Wild group that operates in Morrisania, and committed at least two robberies a month from June 2011 to June 2013. During one robbery in February of last year, authorities allege that an innocent victim, the brother of a purported drug dealer, was beaten "unconscious with a heavy frying pan and a door ripped from an entertainment center" and robbed of jewelry, clothing, and money.
From the release:
Under gang leaders' direction, a female would befriend the intended victim in advance of the planned robberies and learn what she could about drugs, money and the best time to strike. Then, on the day of a robbery, the same female associate helped the robbers gain entry, in some cases texting the robbers from inside the target location. The robbers carried stolen bags by designers Gucci and Louis Vuitton to the robbery locations in order to transport the loot.
Authorities say the 6 Wild gang once stole as much as six pounds of cocaine from a drug dealer, which they then distributed among the members for resale. The gang also allegedly used children to transport their firearms.
While the robberies of the drug dealers went unreported to the police, authorities say that innocent victims came forward, and their testimony, along with video surveillance, Facebook messages and text messages, helped corroborate the case against the men.
The gang's leader, 24-year-old Jahmeekga Joseph, a/k/a "Fresh," was one of the eleven arrested, although he was picked up last fall. The other men who were arrested include "Weezy"; "Problem"; "Jaba"; "Yogi"; "Boogz"; "Stef"; "Vel"; "Dieya"; "Dee Jay"; and "G-baby".
