As one observer put it, it's like something out of Independence Day... or the Nothing in The Neverending Story, depending on how far back we want to date ourselves. From our vantage point in DUMBO the great darkness—darker than a black steer's tuckus on a moonless prairie night—has given way to diffuse light as a real rain comes to wash all the scum off the streets.
