The NYPD recovered 55 weapons at a gun buyback in Staten Island yesterday, the second one the department has sponsored in a week. According to a release, an assault rifle was among the surrendered guns: an SKS .762 caliber with a 30-round magazine.

33 revolvers, 14 semiautomatic pistols, a rifle, an assault rifle, and several other pellet guns were turned in at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church. Two of the returned guns were loaded, and two others had their serial numbers filed off. The department notes that over 8,000 weapons have been turned in since the program's inception.
