While President Obama was off signing agreements in Afghanistan the lovely group Guardians of Rescue was busy bringing 11 adorable canines from the country. The pups in question, nicknamed "battle buddies" as opposed to the trained "war dogs," had been rescued by American military men and women, who later had to give them up when their troops were moved.

The dogs didn't all come in together, but should be here by the end of the week. One of them, Goldie, is being taken directly to Colorado to be reunited with her soldier there. The other ten dogs will now be given to U.S. soldiers in the state as part of an Honor Adoption program. Here's how the Guardians explain it:

Phase Two of our mission is simple. Sometimes our soldiers, who can’t help saving the animals that have given them so much, are unable to offer them a home in States due to the nature of their service to our country or for other reasons. This weighs heavy on the soldier’s soul, since this dog means so much to them. The soldiers and service men and woman who saved them have the peace of mind that their dogs will be safe now, and will have the lives they dreamed for them here in the US. These 10 will go to Hounds Town USA in Port Jefferson Station, NY for some R&R, and get acclimated to life here in the United States.

While they are there, Guardians of Rescue, Hammer Out Animal Cruelty, and Soldiers’ Animal Companions Fund will pair these dogs up with Soldiers and Veterans of the war here in the US, that have a special bond with these very special “Battle Buddies”. Save-a-Pet will make sure every dog is micro chipped and Pilots n Paws will make sure these dogs get the transport they need to live out their lives with their forever families.

So! If you or someone you know served in the war in Afghanistan, and are looking to adopt one of these walking piles of cute, please e-mail [email protected]. And if not, just sit back and look at the awwww. Welcome to America guys!
