The CVS pharmacy on 18th Street and Park Avenue is in trouble after customers found old prescription information billowing through the nearby streets. Numerous papers containing patient's names, addresses and old prescription info were not properly disposed of, and patients are angry. Shirley Okin told the Daily News, "I'm just so angry. I'm going to blow my stack!" However, she was apparently fine with letting the press know her mishandled prescription was for fioricet with codeine from back in 2002.
According to CVS spokesman Mike DeAngelis, the drug store and pharmacy has strict disposal policies involving shredding anything with personal information, and they will be investigating if those procedures were followed at the Manhattan location. However, CVS Caremark did pay a $2.25 million settlement just last year for leaving old prescriptions in dumpsters outside an Indiana location. Locals were surprised that the pharmacy didn't follow the protocol. Orkin said, "I thought they would destroy these things. Especially since no one wants strangers to find out our personal information. These days, we need to protect that."
