A motorist with a suspended license fatally struck a pedestrian in the Bronx this morning, hours before another woman was critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn, police said.

The first victim, a 52-year-old woman, was hit by the driver of an Acura TL while crossing Grand Concourse near East 192nd Street at 5 a.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at St. Barnabas Hospital. The driver did not have a valid license, police said, and was subsequently arrested. Those charges are pending.

A few hours later, another pedestrian was hit, this time in Brownsville. The woman was in a crosswalk at Belmont and Rockaway Avenues just after 9 a.m. this morning, when she was struck by the driver of a Jeep, police said. The driver fled the scene, and has not yet been apprehended.

The woman is not expected to survive the crash, police said.

Additional information about either victim could not immediately be provided.

Traffic fatalities are up at least 18 percent compared to this time last year, according to data maintained by the NYPD. More than 5,600 pedestrians have been injured on city streets in 2019.
