The Post has more details about the alleged rape at Jackson Square Park on Monday: "A thug raped an unconscious woman on a West Village park bench, then tried to run away from cops with the victim slung over his shoulder, a law-enforcement source said yesterday... He led cops on a brief chase, then dropped the woman to the ground before being taken into custody."
Apparently a few witnesses had called the police to say a man was assaulting a woman on a bench. Anthony Torres, 19, who was hit with numerous charges including first-degree rape, is being held on $50,000 bail and awaiting a psych evaluation at Bellevue.
The Post adds, "The incapacitated woman was lying face down on the bench during a rainstorm Monday at 11:30 a.m. when Torres allegedly raped her. A law-enforcement source said the woman had no memory of the attack and was given a toxicology test to determine if she was drunk." This occurred in the 6th Precinct (latest crime stats PDF).
