Thanks to the New York Post's two-fer today, we've gotten a good long glimpse into Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi's baby daddy troubles. You see, according to a new suit, though Adam Dell, brother to Dell computers empire founder Michael, is the biological father of 11-month-old daughter Krishna he just gets no respect from the former Mrs. Salman Rushdie.
Some facts we learned today about Lakshmi and Dell's custody troubles:
- While pregnant Lakshmi told Dell, a venture capitalist, that "she found him to be an 'unambitious' man with an 'uninteresting' career and equally 'unmemorable' friends."
- Also she told him that she'd been sleeping with Ted Forstmann at the same time and that she hoped the billionaire financier "was the child's biological father."
- Three days after Krishna was born Lakshmi told Dell, through her lawyer, that she wanted "no contact with him whatsoever." She eventually conceded to a temporary visitation agreement that allowed him a few hours a week with his daughter.
- She still made sure Dell's name wasn't on the baby's birth certificate!
- The model and TV host travels a lot. So much that—and we don't know how these people can live through such turmoil—Dell "said he was forced to go to the Bahamas to see the girl earlier this month."
Dell is suing for full custody, to get Krishna's name changed to reflect his paternity and to have his name added to the birth certificate. All of which makes this sound to us like we can expect a loud and public and not particularly quick
custody case in the coming months.
