A group of pugilists roughed up five off duty cops outside a Queens nightclub on Dec. 16. The officers allegedly got into a brawl in front of the Tropix Bar and Lounge at around 4 am after an officer flashed his badge to a bouncer in an attempt to get into the Queens Boulevard venue, which was closing for the night. A group of men outside the club began shouting at the cops — who had just left a housing police holiday party — and a fight broke out, according to the Daily News.

The unarmed officers were clubbed with a steering wheel lock and another "heavy metal object," sending three of them to Jamaica Hospital for treatment of bloody gashes on their heads and faces. After the brawl, the assailants got away and the officers were deemed "fit for duty," allowing "them to return to their posts in the Brownsville housing projects," according to the tabloid. The incident is now under review. "It is sad when five off-duty cops are victims of a vicious assault and their attackers are still on the streets," an anonymous police told the tabloid. "It is getting bad out there."

When questioned by reporters, a manager at the nightclub said he was unaware of the fight, while a bouncer claimed the altercation occurred down the block in front of a Domino's Pizza.
