Not all dogs can survive a gun shot wound. Yesterday an unidentified off-duty police officer shot and killed a pit bull in Brooklyn after the canine allegedly attacked him, police say.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. yesterday when the officer was walking on 30th Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues. Apparently the dog, which was with its owner, suddenly ran at the cop and bit him in the knee. At that point the officer pulled out his service weapon and killed the pooch with one shot. If you are into that sort of thing, the Daily News has a very sad photo of the dead dog, collar still on, lying in the street.
The officer was later taken to Lutheran Medical Center to have his bite wound treated. Sadly police officers shooting dogs is nothing new, recently Austin has been dealing with its own dead dog incident, which you can read about here and here. Have a hanky handy.
