The area around Hudson Yards train station is once again open to the public and operating after a bomb threat led the NYPD to evacuate the area Friday evening, police said.
According to the NYPD, police responded to a 911 call about a bomb threat in the area of 33rd Street and 10th Avenue a little after 5 p.m. They said they learned from security personnel that someone had entered the area and made verbal threats.
Several videos posted to social media Friday night appeared to show police directing people away from the area, including the Vessel structure at Hudson Yards.
Police said the bomb squad established a safe perimeter around the area, and a person was taken into custody, but they didn’t provide more information on whether any device was found or give more information about the person. They said around 8:15 p.m. that the station was back open.
The city’s Notify NYC service’s most recent alerts on social media at that time, posted about 6:40 p.m., still warned to expect traffic delays, mass transit disruptions and road closures, and told people to avoid the area. The MTA said earlier that evening 7 train service was suspended between Grand Central-42nd Street and 34th Street-Hudson Yards.
