Police are searching for two men they say have been robbing people while armed across Manhattan and the Bronx since September. Officials say their most recent heist ended with shots fired in SoHo this week.
NYPD officials said one of the men fired a gun around 9:15 a.m. Monday outside a residential building on Charlton Street and Sixth Avenue while stealing a handbag from a 59-year-old man. The victim was not hurt and no one was struck by the gunfire, according to police. Officials said the shooter fled west on a two-wheeled vehicle.
Police on Wednesday connected that incident to 16 others they believe involved the same robber and another man. Police described most of the incidents as as armed robberies, and said they happened in Concourse Village, Morris Heights, Highbridge, Bedford Park, Van Nest and West Farms as well as the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, East Village and near Times Square.
Police said the first robbery in the spree was reported on Sept. 14 and most of the incidents occurred in October. The men appeared to primarily target men between 19 and 60 years old, and most often stole their neck chains, though they also stole cash and a few two-wheelers, according to the NYPD.
None of the victims was seriously injured, but one of the suspects struck a woman in her head with his gun while stealing her neck chain on Sept. 30, officials said. She refused medical attention at the scene.

Police said the men have repeatedly fled the robberies on a gray or green scooter. Surveillance video shows one of the men riding what appears to be a black electric motorbike and wearing a black jacket, a black hood with white triangle trim, and a black backpack.
Robberies citywide are down more than 9% this year compared to the same period last year, according to NYPD data. They have also fallen in both Manhattan and the Bronx.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). People can also submit tips on the Crime Stoppers website.
