A man was killed in Queens Wednesday afternoon after trying to stop a thief who was stealing property from his car, according to police.

NYPD officials said 43-year-old Mauro Chimbay attempted to confront a male suspect who was taking things from his parked car around 3 p.m. in front of 25-17 85th Street in East Elmhurst.

When Chimbay approached the suspect, he jumped into a white sedan, which was being driven by a second person. Police said Chimbay grabbed onto the hood, and was thrown from the car as it sped off northbound on 85th Street.

First responders found Chimbay lying in the road with severe head trauma. He was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have made no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
