A 46-year-old Queens man whose head was severed from his body was found in the water near the Howard Beach shoreline in Southeast Queens on Friday night, police said.
Officials said they found Lukasz Mikolajewicz's body near the intersection of 165th Avenue and Cross Bay Boulevard in Queens, shortly before 9 p.m. Friday. He was officially pronounced dead soon after.
Police released the man's identity on Monday afternoon. There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
Mikolajewicz's death comes months after police said they found the torso of Irish filmmaker Ross McDonnell on the shore of Breezy Point, Queens, in November. Officials at the time said McDonnell engaged in open water swimming at night.
This story has been updated with the identity of the man found in the water.
