BEEWARE: COPIOUS BEE PUNS AHEAD When transporting your bees, please bee careful you don't get stung by slippery fingers. A tipster passed along this photo of a bee cleanup on his block of Madison Street in Brooklyn yesterday evening after a neighbor apparently dropped "a giant container full and it burst open." The tipster writes that he saw "hundreds of bees on my block, [the] NYPD blocked off the street and now they're attempting to vacuum them up." A police spokesman had no information regarding the swarm, but a source tells us the bees may have been upset after seeing My Girl.
The city beegalized beekeeping in 2010, provided you register your Apis mellifera bees with the DOH [pdf] and fill out a state survey. Master beekeeping courses at Cornell cost $85, and you can also meet up with one of the city's many beekeeping clubs and organizations.
