New York City is, you know, an expensive city to live in. And smoking? That is a very expensive habit. Which (along with your health) adds up to a pretty good reason to give quitting the cancer sticks a try every once in a while. In fact, we do it all the time! And hey, lookie here, the city of New York is once again offering to help you quit. For free. Which even cheaper than buying a loosie from the guy on the corner for a buck.
Yep, from now through March 21st the city's Department of Health is offering nicotine patches and gum to those who ask for it. All you have to do is fill out a little form (and get an occasional call or e-mail) and crazy-dream-inducing patches or gum-numbing gum can be yours! Who knows, if you are a *cough* *cough* heavy smoker, you might even get both!
Personally, I've been able to quit longer and more successfully without patches and gums (and still, for better or worse, never completely), but it takes all kinds. [Editor's note: Garth still appears to be leaving the office to smoke 5-7 times per day.] And quitting with free patches is still cheaper than growing your own artisanal tobacco or falling in with the e-cigarette crowd.
