The NY1 sexual harassment lawsuit trial continued to expose the behind-the-scenes world of NY1, with more revelations of raunchy lunches, lusty nicknames, and general newsroom shenanigans. It also gave the Post more opportunities to flash their impressive wordplay skillz.
Jeff Carey, a former news assistant, testified on the second day of trial that Steve Paulus, Senior Vice President of News, conducted a crude question-and-answer session with male and female news assistants at Peter Luger's steakhouse in 1997. "The line of discussion I remember the most was Steve Paulus going around the table asking who you'd rather be with, female reporters, who was better looking, would you sleep with this one, would you sleep with that one. All the female reporters came up." Under cross-examination, Carey went on to say that Paulus' questions were not "meant to be nasty." Paulus testified on the first day of trial that Sammarco was fired because she "wasn't doing a great job."
Carey also testified that Sammarco was constantly referred to as "BBB" ("Big Butt Booty") by colleagues, and that he saw dozens of copies of the photo-shopped pic of Sammarco with cartoonishly-big breasts posted around the office. "I thought it was totally uncalled-for in a place of work," he said. Sammarco is expected to take the stand sometime today.
