The NY State Police are looking to crack down for drivers who are using their cell phones—and other electronic devices—while driving this week. Governor Cuomo said, "Using a cell phone while driving is illegal and puts other motorists in danger."
This is the second "Operation Hang Up" from the state police; the last one was this past Thanksgiving holiday, which Cuomo called a "huge success" with "more than 800 distracted drivers were ticketed." Cuomo explained, "This second campaign will enable State Police to step up enforcement measures to send a clear message to drivers: keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. I thank the State Police and local law enforcement officers for their hard work to keep New Yorkers safe."
The crack down started today and runs through Sunday, April 29. If you're caught yakking on holding your cell phone, you'll get 2 points on your license and be fined $150.
