Riding high off his success in getting the marriage equality bill passed, Governor Andrew Cuomo has been trying to remain modest and under-the-radar by shrugging off talk that he'll run for president in 2016. But why wait until 2016 to talk about working in D.C.—now some believe President Obama will ask Cuomo to be his running mate in 2012! (Poor Joe—he just started Tweeting!)
The Post spoke to William Powers, who used to run the NY State GOP is "credited with playing a key role in electing Rudy Giuliani mayor and George Pataki governor." Powers explained, "Andrew had a fabulous session. It was fabulous. A property-tax cap, ethics reform and, for Democrats, gay marriage... I don't think there's any doubt Obama is going to pick him as his running mate. The president is in trouble and [Vice President Joseph] Biden doesn't bring anything to his ticket. The president will call him up later this year and say, 'Andrew, you have to do this for the good of the country.' What's Andrew going to say, 'No?'"
Earlier this year, former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown predicted an Obama-Cuomo ticket in 2012, with Biden taking over as Secretary of State, "[Cuomo]'s a big name, a big-state governor, and a Democrat who is taking on the issue of public-employee salaries and pensions. Plus, he looks good."
