Police are trying to find the parents of a newborn girl found abandoned behind a Queens housing complex last night. Thankfully, the baby girl is doing okay, according to authorities.

Police were called to the Woodside Houses in Queens around 11:40 p.m. last night when neighbors heard the baby crying. The little girl was reportedly in the grass behind one of the buildings on Broadway near 50th Street, "wrapped in towels and sheets." Police quickly took the infant to Elmhurst Hospital where she is in good health, according to officials. Meanwhile, cops have been canvasing the neighborhood trying to find the infant's parents to find out what happened.

Sadly, abandoned babies pop up at least once a year in New York City and they really don't have to: New York State has a "safe haven" law which says that any parent can give up a baby at any local hospital, firehouse or police station within 30 days of birth, no questions asked.
