Whoops! Last September, after a successful trial run, the FDNY began outfitting firefighters with new gloves from a company called The Glove Corp. In the trial the gloves worked great, but in practice... not so much. Turns out the gloves in the trial used a cotton fiber while the ones issued used a non-code-compliant polyester blend. And now six firefighters have gotten second-degree burns on the back of their hands. Since the problem emerged the FDNY has been scrambling to get the gloves out of circulation (not to mention the $850,000 they spent on them). Oh, and the Glove Corp.? It closed on January 31.
