The MTA has blocked an ad the Gay Men's Health Crisis wanted to run. Apparently, the MTA found the "condom-draped Manhattan" ad "inappropriate," according to the Post. "The ads feature a drawing of Manhattan resembling a penis covered in a condom with the message: 'New York City celebrates National Condom Week' along with the dates Feb. 14-21 and the group's Web site address." The MTA did not disagree with the GMHC's message about preventing HIV by using condoms, but probably foresaw irate calls from subway riders. Gothamist thinks the MTA just doesn't want to face that Manhattan is rather phallic looking and has phalluses (phalli?) over town, aka your friendly neighbor skyscrapers.
