Don’t put those snow boots away just yet, New Yorkers.
Meteorologists are forecasting two more nights of snow in New York City and the surrounding areas on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, about 1 inch of snow could fall overnight both days and coat what remains on the streets from the weekend’s larger accumulation.
“ We are expecting another round, almost a one-two punch,” said Dominic Ramunni at the weather service, adding that the heaviest snowfall would likely happen later in the evenings. “Not a huge accumulation, maybe an inch or two, but enough to certainly cause travel impacts if folks are out. There could potentially be some refreezing and some black-ice issues.”
The snow is predicted to turn into sleet or freezing rain by morning during both rounds, with temperatures below freezing in the early hours. Long Island’s South Shore is set to get the highest amounts of snow, the National Weather Service said.
Daytime temperatures throughout the beginning of the week should hover in the 30s, which Ramunni said is normal for this time of year. By Thursday, highs are forecast to climb into the mid-40s, with high chances of rain in the morning.
More than 3 inches of snow fell across New York City from Saturday into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. It was the first time since last February that the city recorded more than 3 inches of snow during a single storm.
