Politicker NY notices that State Senator Hiram Monserrate has paid $15,000 "to a reputation management firm two weeks" after being arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend. Monserrate told Politicker NY, "Like most elected officials, I receive, from time to time, advice from media consultants. It's all part of what we do, and that's what I contracted them for." (Monserrate denies the allegations, as does his girlfriend, but authorities may have damning evidence.) In the meantime, the NY State chapter of the National Organization for Women wants Monserrate to be removed from his position of power: "We will use as an example that it is inexplicable that our former Governor Spitzer was forced to resign for having sex with a prostitute while Senator Monserrate is allowed to continue in a leadership position. Does this mean that it is more OK to beat your girlfriend than to have sex with a prostitute?"
