The scene was set like so many others of its kind: a 23-year-old NYC mother of two young children was dropping her kids off at their father's home in Jersey City on Monday when she became enraged over his new girlfriend. An argument ensued between the parents, spilling over into the apartment building's hallway. And then the mother reached into her baby carriage, pulled out an Astra Unceta 9mm handgun, and fired.
Vanessa Marty was subsequently arrested fleeing from the building, and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of children. A police spokesman said it was unknown whether or not one of the children, ages 3 and 4, was in the carriage when Marty took the gun out and fired a shot into the hallway wall. The kids stayed with the father after the incident. Jeez, she almost makes the "Home Alone" mom look like Debbie Reynolds!
