Federal authorities tell the Staten Island Advance that they apprehended the leader of a notorious Mexican gang "responsible for about 20 murders and numerous kidnappings in three Mexican states." Apparently Liberio Andrew Gonzalez, whose Liborio gang would dress as police officers, kidnap the young and old, and demand 4-6 million peso ransoms, had fled to the U.S. in 2005 and was living on Staten Island under another name and cleaning boats. Rosebank resident Calixto Reyes said Gonzalez rented an attic room for $400/month for the past few months, "He just lived upstairs with us. We really did not know." A man whose parents live across the street from Reyes said, "You don't think you know your neighbor, but you don't expect that. That's weird. What are you going to do? Maybe it's better off not knowing your neighbors."
