The Mets reached "baseball nirvana" with their 1-0 opening day win over the Atlanta Braves yesterday afternoon—and even better for management, they were able to get a record sell out crowd at Citi Field. But there's still a lot of nervousness about selling tickets—and it's now at the point where the Mets are literally giving tickets away for free to anyone who wants.
If you follow @Mets & @SNYtv on Twitter, you can sign up here for a free ticket in the Promenade Level of Citi Field to this Sunday's home game as the Mets host the Braves at 1:10 p.m. And if you want to bring a friend, you can get the buy-one-get-one free deal...or you can just tell your friend to sign up for Twitter already and get their own damn free ticket.
Look, yesterday's win was great—Johan Santana and Mad Men are the only things still good after 18 months on the disabled list. But the fact that the team already feels pressure to introduce free ticket giveaways on the first weekend of the season doesn't bode very well, now does it? Then again, maybe they'll have to come up with more and more elaborate promotional nights as the season wears on. We're still holding out for "Replica Turk Wendell Shark Teeth Necklace Giveaway Night" and "Free Mike Pizza Hair Frosting Day."
