Yesterday Mayor Bloomberg announced (from the set of Law & Order!) a $120,000 “Made in NY” Production Crafts Training Program, which will help women and minorities in the television and movie industry "move up the ladder to well-paying union production jobs," according to the Post. The program will go into effect this spring, with about two dozen trainees learning specific labor union craft skills.

The Mayor explained, "Participants will be drawn from groups that we think should be better represented in these industries—women, minority-group members, returning veterans and economically struggling New Yorkers." Law & Order's Anthony Anderson added, "We are proud to be part of this announcement of a new program that will give talented, disadvantaged New Yorkers a chance to cultivate their skills in this industry and find a job they love and are proud of. Working in New York is privilege for all of us in the entertainment industry."

Anyone can apply for the program through www.nyc.gov in a few weeks.
