After months of sharp political attacks, President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani are expected to meet on Friday in Washington, D.C., according to the president and a Mamdani spokesperson.

Trump reportedly confirmed the sitdown earlier this week, saying, “We’ll work something out.” Throughout the campaign, the president falsely labeled Mamdani a communist, threatened to deport him and cut off federal funding to the city.

"Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran 'Kwame' Mamdani, has asked for a meeting," Trump said on Truth Social on Wednesday night. "We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!"

The meeting marks a possible turning point in the president’s relationship with Mamdani, a democratic socialist and former state lawmaker who defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in an election earlier this month.

“As is customary for an incoming mayoral administration, the Mayor-elect plans to meet with the President in Washington to discuss public safety, economic security and the affordability agenda that over one million New Yorkers voted for just two weeks ago," Mamdani transition spokesperson Dora Pekec said in a statement.

The 34-year-old mayor-elect has previously said he’s willing to work with anyone, including Trump, if it helps New Yorkers.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
