The Empire State Building has refused the Catholic League's request for them to light up white and blue for Mother Teresa's 100th birthday on August 26th, and City Council member Peter Vallone Jr. has proposed a bill formally requesting the building honor the late nun. But in the meantime, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz—never one to pass up a p.r. opportunity—has come to the saint's rescue.

Markowitz announced yesterday that Brooklyn Borough Hall will be illuminated in blue and white, the colors of her religious order, on August 26th. "Borough Hall may not be as tall as the Empire State Building, but it is Brooklyn’s oldest public building—and one of the oldest in New York City—and what better place than our diverse borough to celebrate not only Mother Teresa but people and groups of all faiths—including Brooklyn’s large Catholic community—who have made great contributions to the world," Markowitz said in a statement. Of course, the 26th is also Macaulay Culkin's birthday, so Marty's really risking alienating Home Alone voters with this snub.
