The man who allegedly threatened the commander of Brooklyn's 73rd Precinct by posting details about his schedule and car on Facebook turned himself in yesterday. The Daily News reports that 19-year-old Jonathan Thompson surrendered himself at the precinct around 7 p.m. last night. Thompson is charged with aggravated harassment and making a terroristic threat against Deputy Inspector Joseph Gulotta. “A threat against a police officer is a threat against all of us,” Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes said.
Gulotta's method of combing Facebook for "hours each week" gathering information on gang activity was lauded in a Daily News story last week, perhaps making him the target for the threat. According to the report, the 73rd confiscated 199 guns in 2012, up from 156 the year before, making it the highest number of any precinct in the city.
The Post claims that Thompson goes by the name Benzino, is a "reputed member" of the Brooklyn gang Hood Stars, and has three prior arrests for menacing, marijuana possession, disorderly conduct, and trespassing. Thompson's attorney denied the charges, calling them "a classic case of rush to judgment."
