A fight inside a Lower East Side halfway house early Wednesday morning resulted in the stabbing of a 50-year-old man, and his murderer is still on the loose, the Daily News reports. Police "recovered a blood-spattered knife" on Attorney and Stanton streets, nearby the The Stanton House, which is on 190 Stanton. Bowery Boogie notes that a police helicopter descended upon the neighborhood, along with a "half-dozen squad cars…blocking the road between Attorney and Ridge."
While the victim's name hasn't been released, "sources said he had a long rap sheet with 19 prior arrests —many for robbery and assault." An employee of the halfway house said that the center boards "people…in transition. They are working on themselves." There have been a number of fatal stabbings in the neighborhood in recent months: Last month, there was the horrific death of Sarah Coit, who was nearly decapitated by her boyfriend in their Clinton Street apartment, and in February, a former model was found dead in a Baruch Houses elevator.
