A man who parked his car on a Queens street said he found his vehicle's sunroof shattered on Thursday, apparently due to a subway bolt that fell from elevated tracks.
Jalilur Rahman told WCBS 2 he had parked his car at 31st Street and 35th Avenue, by the N/W tracks, in Astoria while he did laundry. At one point, he heard a loud bang. “I looked back and I see my entire sunroof cracked... I was shocked," Rahman said. "I came out, there was nothing on top of my car, and right next to my car I see this big bolt."
Rahman also pointed out a piece of wood dangling from the tracks.
This area appears to be outside of the MTA's pilot program for enhanced netting to prevent such incidents, which include the piece of wood from a 7 line platform that impaled a car; a piece of metal that fell from the same 7 train tracks a month later; and on and on.
An MTA spokesperson said, "NYC Transit Inspectors visited the scene in Astoria where there was a report that a bolt landed on the sunroof of a car, and were unable to locate any debris consistent with objects having recently fallen from an elevated train structure. The driver who was the subject of a social media video showing a metal bolt and shattered sunroof was not present. Given the darkness an inspection of the elevated N-W line structure at that location was not immediately possible, and will be conducted Friday morning."
