Amos Shuchman, who was born in Israel in 1928 and died on February 1 in New York, "loved his family, his birth and adopted countries, finance, skiing, opera, ballet," heck he "loved everything about NYC, except the New York Times." We know this because Shuchman's paid death notice was printed…in the New York Times. Schuchman's preferred news source? “We think he is in heaven now with a New York Post and a falafel sandwich, having a good chuckle over this notoriety,” Shuchman's son Daniel told, well, who else?
“To put it diplomatically, he did not believe that the Times provided honest and objective reporting on [Israel] and other important matters,” Shuchman's son said. Indeed, the Post is known for its objectivity. But why pay the Times just to insult them? “He would have laughed heartily at the irony and the posthumous attention the obituary is getting,’’ Shuchman's son added. Perhaps the elder Shuchman would enjoy knowing that someone, somewhere blew the last of their 20 free monthly articles on his death notice.
