Yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old man jumped from a building near 36th Street and 6th Avenue in Midtown and hit a city bus. According to the Daily News, "The QM1 bus, empty except for a driver, was parked along Sixth Ave. near W. 36th St. when the suicidal 19-year-old smashed into the edge of its roof, a transit source said." The bus was on a layover and not in service; the driver was not injured.
The teen ended up on the sidewalk. The scene remained blocked off for hours, and witnesses could see a big dent in the bus's roof. One told us that the police used a restaurant's barriers to cordon off the body—and the barriers happened to say "Have a Nice Day!"
Apparently the teen was "distraught over a recent breakup," per the News' sources.
