A man got his hand stuck in a wood chipper on Staten Island this morning. An FDNY spokesman tells us the man's hand was not amputated, but there was considerable "controlled bleeding," and he was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center shortly after 10 a.m. The Staten Island Advance reports that the man's hand was still attached but "mangled" when he walked into the A to Z Auto Body Corp. at 4409 Arthur Kill Rd. in search of help.

We called A to Z Auto Body and a man who answered the phone angrily denied any involvement with the incident. "All these reporters are calling here and I'm going to have to take this up with the Staten Island Advance, because this is a false report," he declared. "The guy met a cop car on the corner, not here. An ambulance came for him on the corner, not here." Asked for more details about the victim's condition, the auto body employee declined to elaborate, refused to give his name, and hung up.
