Yesterday, the Medical Examiner's office said that a 22-month-old girl who was found unconscious in a Bronx apartment and later died from terrible injuries had been killed. Now police have arrested the boyfriend of the toddler's mother and he has been charged with second-degree murder. The Daily News reports that Ramel Green said in a videotape confession, "I knocked her in the stomach with my elbow. She had her eyes open, but she wasn't breathing."

Green was watching the toddler, Sanaa Brewington, for his girlfriend Brittany Carter, and the NY Times reports, "Mr. Green told investigators that he had fallen asleep next to the girl and woke to find her unresponsive." But the News says that Green allegedly attacked Sanaa because she wouldn't stop crying. The ME's office said she died from blunt compact injuries to the torso, with lacerations of the liver, spleen, pancreas and duodenum. A source told the News, "The M.E. says the liver is really lacerated - the worst she ever saw."

A neighbor of Carter's told the Times that Green "was a good person. He took care of her like it was his daughter. All the people in that house are good people. I don’t think they hurt that baby."
