The police arrested a homeless man in Harlem because he was standing on the sidewalk watching pornography on a portable DVD player. The Daily News reports that 48-year-old Rudolph Campbell's arresting officer said Campbell was "recklessly creating a risk" and "obstructed vehicular and pedestrian traffic" due to the images and sounds of "Extreme Asses #18."
Campbell had plugged in the power cord to the small DVD player from a stranger's stoop on West 130th Street near Lenox Avenue.
"I observed that the defendant was standing directly in the middle of the sidewalk without moving, and that multiple people, including at least three small children, had to walk around him in order to continue walking down the sidewalk," the officer wrote.
Campbell, who has a lengthy criminal record of non-violent offenses, was arrested on March 31st, and plead guilty to the charge of public display of offensive sexual material. He was released for time served.
Look how far we've come. Murder by the thousands, chloral hydrate cruised smudged glasses before filthy fingernails skipped through sleeping wallets, tanks rolled through neighborhoods, crushing glass and dissent; Hot and Horny Lusty Nymphs looked down on sweaty starched shirts, vice was inseparable from existence. Now you'll spend a week in jail if you take your smut outside.
