A man has been arrested and accused of stabbing his boyfriend's dog to death in the street outside an Upper East Side park this weekend.
According to cops, the horrifying incident happened around 10 a.m. Saturday on E. 78th Street near the FDR Drive. Suspect Jose Rodriguez, 39, was taking care of his boyfriend Randy Capehart's 5-year-old dog, Buddy, while Capehart was in Texas visiting family. Rodriguez and Capehart had been together for 13 years, according to the Post.
The News reports that Rodriguez was suspicious that Capehart was visiting another man in Texas, and took out his anger on the dog. He allegedly stabbed the tiny dog twice with a kitchen knife at John Jay Park.
"Apparently, my former partner had a psychotic break," Capehart told the Post; the tabloid adds that "horrified parents whose children had witnessed the killing" called the cops after it happened.
Rodriguez has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon.
