Here's a little more to consider in the murder of Julio Locarno: He was just released from Rikers Island on $125,000 bail last Friday. Locarno, who was shot in the head near Prospect Park on Wednesday night, had been charged in the killing of disgraced EMT Jason Green—Locarno and Green had apparently been arguing over a parking space in Soho last July. The NY Times reports, "It was not clear if Mr. Locarno’s death was connected to the earlier killing, which remains an open case."
Green had achieved an amount of infamy after being one of two EMTs who allegedly ignored a pregnant worker's cries for help at a Brooklyn Au Bon Pain; the woman and the unborn child died and Green and his colleague/girlfriend were suspended. When Green and Locarno clashed, Locarno allegedly told someone, "Shoot! Shoot!" Locarno was charged with manslaughter and gang assault last month; the shooter is still at large.
The Times says that Locarno "spent a little over a month in jail before he was released last Friday, records from the Department of Correction show. The police found him Wednesday night, after responding to a call of shots fired. He was lying on a pathway leading to the Parade Ground at the southern end of Prospect Park, the police said. He had been shot four times and was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital Center." His lawyer said, "This kid was undeserving of this. It was a terrible tragedy."
